DEAN Gaffney is set for a sensational return to EastEnders, we can reveal.

The star, 42, was axed from the BBC soap last year amid controversy.

But he has revealed show bosses have assured him he will “definitely” reprise his role in the future.

Dean told the Daily Star Sunday: “I had a meeting with the boss and they said, ‘The door is left open for Robbie and we will definitely see you in the future.’

“It will happen at some point. It’s just a case of when it happens. So I can’t complain about that.

“It’s nice to know. It’s a bit cliched to say it, but I have been associated with that show on and off for 27 years and that’s a big chunk of my life.

“It’s like a family. It’s somewhere I love to be and you can’t buy that.”

Dean, whose soap character was famed for his sidekick dog Wellard, had his EastEnders contract terminated after he was caught begging a stranger for racy photos online.

Bosses decided to write him out of the action by saying Robbie had moved to India.

But Dean is confident fans are keen to see his character back in Albert Square.

He said: “Robbie’s story came to an abrupt end, so people have been saying, ‘Is Robbie going to come back from India?’

“It comes up a lot.” Dean is regularly offered spots on reality

TV shows but he is keen to keep acting. He said: “Reality has been great to me over the years.

“It puts food on the table and that’s lovely. But ultimately I’m an actor and that’s what I want to continue to do.”

Dean is currently on E4’s flyon-the-wall series Celebs Go Dating. It sees him meeting single women in a bid to find love.

The star admits he signed up for the show to earn money.

He said: “At the end of the day it’s a job, and a job pays money. I also did it for a good time.”

Dean added: “We go on dates that last for a minimum of an hour and the show only picks two-and-a-half minutes of that.

“Sometimes it can be edited in a way that makes you look like you’re repeating yourself. You’re also on a date with 10 cameras in your face, which is not easy.”
