JACK HAS CRUISE CONTROL

- By ED GLEAVE TV Editor

THE longest time that anyone has managed to tolerate being in the quietest place on the planet is just 45 minutes.

Scientists in America created a chamber where the noise level inside is measured at -9.4 decibels.

Humans cannot even stand up inside because we use sound to orientate ourselves.

P Shepherd reckons that he’s the Tom Cruise of Coronation Street.

The actor, who plays David Platt on the soap, is often called on to do stunts – just like the Hollywood star.

And every time he’s asked he jumps at the chance, refusing to let a stunt double stand in for him.

Jack, 32, told the Daily Star Sunday: “I like all the stunts I get to do. I ask to do them all myself rather than have a stunt double do them.

“It’s more fun that way. I’m like Tom Cruise! They ask me to do stuff all the time…they’ll say, ‘Are you all right with heights?’ Or, ‘Are you all right with fire or water?’ Things like that.”

Jack joined Corrie as gobby David almost two decades ago.

And he has been risking his safety by doing stunts since he was in his early teens.

He added: “I was doing stunts when I was about 14, so when we did the canal scene during the Richard Hillman storyline 17 years ago. That one was freezing.

“We filmed it in a canal and it was February so it was really cold. They actually had to break the ice so we could go into the canal.”

Last week we showed photos of Jack tackling his latest stunt.

He was seen jumping on a car before being involved in a chase with a gang of thugs.

But Jack’s love for action scenes comes at a cost.

He said: “I pulled my groin last week. It was uncomfortable after that.”
