‘Partying is just work to me now!’

- Jennifer Kyte

Geordie OGs’ Gaz Beadle talks to us about fatherhood, romantic proposals and why he doesn’t miss his nights out on the lash…

When you think of Geordie Shore, you instantly think of party boy Gaz Beadle. He’s had his fair share of antics aired on the show over the years, from his relationship with Charlotte Crosby to his wild and crazy, boozy partying.

But all that is well and truly in the past for Gaz, 31, now. Not only is he engaged to model Emma McVey, he’s also dad to Chester, two, and Primrose, three months. And the star wouldn’t change it for the world.

Swapping late nights for nappies, and drinking shots for night feeds, here, Gaz – who’s currently starring in Geordie OGs – tells us all

about it…

So much is happening with you on this new series…

I know, I get engaged! It was hard to plan because Emma wanted our son Chester to be there and I wanted it to be a surprise. So I planned it on Bonfire Night. I asked her to pick up Chester from nursery and drop our dogs at her dad’s and when she got back I had a sign up in the garden that said,“Will you marry me?”in fireworks and then I got down on one knee. Then there was an eightminute display. It was so long! She was totally surprised.

Have you started wedding planning?

No, we haven’t. We’ve just had a baby so we’re getting our heads around having two kids. And we want Primrose to be old enough to be able to walk, so I think we’ll plan it in two years’ time. It will definitely be abroad, I’m not really traditional. It won’t be massive, it’ll be a nice wedding.

Your life has changed so much since Geordie Shore…

I know, I always thought I would be settled down around the age of 30 though, so it’s worked out. I got to the point in Geordie Shore when

I was 30 and people were

20, it felt a bit weird. When we were coming back from nights out and the lads were having food fights I was like,“What are you doing? It’s so embarrassing.”But when you’re 21 that’s what you do. So I needed to get out.

Do you still enjoy going on nights out?

Not really, no. I got to the point where I thought, “There has to be more to life than going out!”I was out six, seven nights a week for nine years! I was never in the same place for more than three days. But now I have a house, a family, I love being able to go home and get into my bed. Going out now is like work for me and being hungover with kids is not any fun.

Do you miss Geordie Shore?

I don’t miss it, I have good memories of it. It was fun when I was doing it. It was like being at uni, going out and living in a student house – you have to grow up and get a normal job.

What’s the best thing about being a dad?

It just gives you purpose in the morning. It’s like having a little mate you’re with every day. You watch them change so much so quickly. I couldn’t imagine now not being a dad.

And the hardest?

Well, I think before Chester my life was all about me and being Gaz from Geordie Shore. Then all of a sudden it’s not about you, it’s about them. I’m up early every day. I used to get my hair cut every week, now I’m lucky if it’s every three weeks. I had to get used to not being selfish.

Has it changed your views on things?

Definitely. I’m home most of the time, so I’m really involved with the kids. I take Chester to his swimming on Thursday and football on Saturday. I see mams now with two or three kids on their own and I’m like,“How are you doing that?” It’s amazing what these mams can do because being a parent is hard!

What do you do in the evenings?

Literally, as soon as the baby is asleep we’re in bed, too. We watch Homeland but we’re not big TV people.

What’s your favourite film?

Gladiator. I’m a big fan of Vikings – things like that I find really interesting. Proper soldiers.

If you could plan your last ever meal, what would it be?

Starter would be garlic mushrooms or a prawn cocktail. For the main course it would be my mam’s lasagne and then for pudding, a treacle sponge.
