Hancock hails our campaign for NHS

- By CHARLES WADE-PALMER

HEALTH Secretary Matt Hancock has backed our NHS Heroes campaign.

To show how much we care, the Daily Star Sunday and our sister newspapers have launched a space where the nation can thank NHS workers together.

Within the first 24 hours of the website going live, tens of thousands of people have shown their appreciation.

Mr Hancock, pictured below, said: “I wholeheartedly support the NHS Heroes campaign.

“Our talented health and care workers are rising to the immense challenge that we face as a country. I’ve had the incredible honour of meeting many of them and could not be more proud.

“The courage, dedication and professionalism they show as they carry out their vital work should be an inspiration.

“I urge the public to show their support for these heroes – they are the very best of us.”

To show your gratitude to everyone from health care assistants to doctors in this testing time, head to ThanksamillionNHS.co.uk.

Mr Hancock’s backing came as private hospitals yesterday handed the NHS a lifeline by making thousands of beds available.

Some 8,000 beds and 1,200 ventilators were pledged to the health service to fight the spread of coronavirus.

The deal will also boost manpower, with nearly 20,000 staff on hand to help out with urgent operations and cancer treatments, including 10,000 nurses, over 700 doctors and over 8,000 other clinical staff.
