A DJ has been banned from playing the Bee Gees in his garden during lockdown. John Bourne, 38, of Halesworth, was “gutted” by East Suffolk Council’s ruling after a “grumpy” neighbour complained to them.

HOMELESSNESS could become a thing of the past following the coronavirus crisis, the Government said last night.

Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick made the claim as he led the daily virus briefing and revealed the UK death toll had hit 28,131 – up 621 since Friday.

Mr Jenrick said he wanted to extend the effort to help rough sleepers during the pandemic into a long-term policy.

He claimed more than 5,400 rough sleepers were offered safe accommodation in the past month.

And he revealed that Dame Louise Casey, inset, who is spearheading the Government’s response on rough sleeping, has been appointed to oversee the national effort on helping the homeless.

Mr Jenrick said: “She will work hand-in-hand with councils and with other groups across the country to plan how we can ensure that as many people as possible can move into the long-term sustainable and safe accommodation that they deserve once the pandemic is over.”

He also announced a package of over

£76million “to support the most vulnerable in society”. They include survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, vulnerable children and victims of modern slavery.

In total, 182,260 people have now tested positive for coronavirus across the UK – an increase of 4,806 since Friday.

Mr Jenrick also confirmed that

1,129,907 tests have been carried out, including 105,937 on Friday.

Dr Jenny Harries, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, said that the UK had now passed the coronavirus peak but that there was “a lot of work still to do”.
