Lockdown party in shed is last straw for legend’s lover
PAUL Gascoigne was dumped by his new girlfriend after he was filmed joining boozers at a makeshift pub in lockdown.
Gazza had found love with mum-of-two Wendy Leech, 43, after meeting her in Spain.
They had self-isolated together in Bridlington, East Yorks.
But Wendy was livid when the former England star, 52, who has battled alcoholism, was filmed in a “lads’ pad” near a mobile home site in Gainsborough, Lincs.
She was upset he had put their health at risk at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and returned to her flat in Salford, Lancs.
She told Gazza she did not want to see him again unless he could change his ways.
A family friend said: “Wendy was really keen on Paul and thinks he’s lovely but couldn’t trust him to behave responsibly.
“She’s a mother of two and has three young grandchildren to think about and has to put their health and safety first.
“They’d been staying at her flat, but moved to Bridlington where they could be left alone during lockdown. But Paul let her down.”
In footage posted online, Gazza is seen showing his appreciation for the makeshift pub built by Paul Salmon, who announces: “Paul Gascoigne in the old shed. Few beers. Gazza’s in the house.”
Gazza then says to the camera: “Can’t beat this f***ing place – unreal.” Then the owner’s furious wife Elizabeth smashes up the shed. Gazza’s agent claimed the footage was shot 10 weeks ago, before the lockdown started.
Gazza fell for single mum Wendy after meeting her on holiday last month. They were pictured walking her dogs.
Hinting at a new romance, the former Spurs and Newcastle star admitted: “There is a girl I like.” He confessed he had not been in a proper relationship for 20 years.
Gazza, who has also struggled with mental health problems, said in January he had found peace thanks to anti-alcohol pellets that make him feel sick if he has too much to drink.
The star, who has previously admitted blowing his £20million fortune and being in and out of rehab, said the operation had changed his life.
He said: “I can walk down the booze aisle in Sainsbury’s – my arm doesn’t reach out to buy it so much now. I can control that urge. I’m in a better place.
“It’s the happiest I’ve been for many years.”
Earlier this year he was pictured posing for selfies with drinkers in a bar in Benalmádena on the Costa del Sol.
Wendy’s friend added: “She’s still speaking to Paul because she’s really concerned for him, but she can’t see a future for them after this.”
Last night, when approached at her home, Wendy declined to comment. Gazza has also been approached for a comment.
