IT’S PLANES, TRANS AND AUTOMOBILES Kellie takes rights fight round globe

-

KELLIE Maloney is set to investigate the fight for trans rights around the world in a TV series.

It will see her meeting people in countries including India, Brazil, America and the UK. She will also head to Russia, which has a poor record on LGBT rights.

Kellie said: “I’m travelling the world to see how trans people are treated in other countries. “It’s a documentary I’ve wanted to do for a while. We want to find out what life is like for people like me in other countries and compare experiences.”

Kellie started filming the series before the world went into lockdown over coronavirus.

And some of what she witnessed was so harrowing it left her needing counselling.

She said: “The things I saw were horrible. I was very disturbed and emotional and upset. It was very sad. I needed counselling after seeing how some people are being treated. It made me proud of the way people are treated here in the UK, and that we have the NHS.”

Despite the UK being ahead of the pack when it comes to trans rights, hate crimes against the community have spiked here in recent years.

Filming for Kellie’s show is due to resume once international travel is back up and running. It is being made by a UK-based production company, but it is not yet known which channel it will air on.

Kellie lived as boxing promoter Frank for 60 years while battling gender dysphoria. In 2014 she came out as trans and started living as a woman.

Since then she has raised awareness of gender issues with stints on Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity MasterChef.

Kellie features on charity single Hero in aid of NHS Charities Together.
