Room Review Careys Manor Hotel & SenSpa, Hants

- By CHARLES WADE-PALMER

SET in the heart of the New Forest at Brockenhurst, Careys Manor is surrounded by the national park that is famous for its wild ponies.

Separated from the outside world by a short but grand driveway, the hotel could be in a bustling city but still provides guests with rural levels of relaxation and escape.

Careys Manor is perfectly located for those who are planning on leaving its doors to get in touch with nature, or who want to hit the beaches just a few miles south along the Solent.

We were blown away by the Manor Suite, which screamed luxury from every angle.

Tired of waiting for your other half to exit the shower? Have two bathrooms.

Cannot decide what channel to put on? Have two TVs.

Despite the suite probably being larger than our entire flat, the furniture in the lounge and bedroom kept the space feeling nice and cosy.

And if the suite is decorated with a nod to tradition, then the marble-effect bathrooms are anything but.

Eating and drinking at the Cambium restaurant are brought together under the expertise of a sommelier.

A glass of white wine was paired with my octopus and chorizo starter before he offered up a suitable bottle of red for both my melt-inthe-mouth venison dish and my girlfriend’s steak.

Hot food is to order at breakfast. I had poached fillet of natural smoked haddock with poached egg and did not regret it.

The award-winning SenSpa is split over two floors and has everything from a tepidarium to a laconicum, all explained to us before we spent hours indulging.
