Sancho in mood for a title Klassik

- By

SUPERSUB Jadon Sancho provided a killer assist – and set himself up for a start in Tuesday’s Der Klassiker.

The Manchester United target had been on for 13 minutes when he laid on the decisive second for title-chasing Dortmund.

England winger Sancho has been struggling with a groin injury and had been kept in reserve by boss Lucien Favre.

He broke away and charged at the heart of the Wolfsburg defence before sliding the ball for Achraf Hakimi to slot home in the 78th minute.

That has put him in contention for a start as Dortmund host archrivals Bayern Munich in a clash of the top two.

It was not a vintage showing from the visitors who took the lead after a surprising air shot from in-form Erling Haaland in the 32nd minute.

Julian Brandt linked up with Hakimi on the right and he slipped a ball to Thorgan Hazard.

The playmaker fired across goal. Haaland missed it but Raphael Guerreiro scored.

Dortmund replaced Mats Hummels with Emre Can at centre-back at the break and the half was only two minutes old when Renato Steffen had a clear sight of goal only to see his firm shot whack the Dortmund bar.

Wolfsburg then had Felix Klaus sent off in the

82nd minute after Hakimi had made it 2-0. GERMAN World Cup-winning midfielder Mario Gotze will leave Dortmund at the end of the season, sports director Michael Zorc said yesterday.

Gotze, 27, scored the only goal in the 2014 World Cup Final against Argentina and came through Dortmund’s youth academy.

He played there until

2013 when he went to Bayern Munich but has struggled since returning in 2016.
