A long Sharpe shock! FERGIE FURY STILL SCARES UNITED STAR ...30 YRS ON

- By DAVID O’DORNAN

LEE Sharpe says he still fears Sir Alex Ferguson’s infamous “hairdryer” treatment, more than 30 years after he joined Manchester United.

The winger, 49, said Fergie “caned” him for everything from his goal celebrations to having a phone.

He said: “I’ve been fearful of him from day one – from getting to Old Trafford to the day when I left.” He also said he thought he needed counselling because it still “does my head in”.

Fergie was feared by players for his verbal reprimands – known as the “hairdryer” – and even once kicked a boot into David

Beckham’s face.

Sharpe, inset, said: “I got hairdryered by the manager for having a mobile phone as a

17-year-old kid.

“I got told off for driving an MR2 and Suzuki jeep when I was 18.”

He also endured Fergie’s wrath for his “Sharpey shuffle” goal celebration at Everton when he was 19.

He said the boss asked him:

“What was all that carrying on after you scored? Who do you think you are?” Lee added: “I was sliding down my seat on the coach. My hair’s getting blown over because the hairdryer’s hitting me.” Fergie also told Lee and Ryan Giggs they were “finished” after he turned up at Sharpe’s house while they were having a party. And even in the Wembley dressing room, after United beat Chelsea 4-0 in the 1994 FA Cup final, Fergie had a pop at him for getting a tattoo. Sharpe said: “He went, ‘I can’t believe you’ve done that, you’re so f***ing stupid.’ “Nailed me again. I’m like, ‘We’ve just done the double! Let me have a day off.’”
