SACK CARRA CALL OVER FANS PARTY Star Kops backlash after title win own goal

- By ED GLEAVE

JAMIE Carragher has been criticised for joining thousands of Liverpool fans celebrating the team’s title victory.

The former Reds star and football pundit flouted advice from the club and council and attended the boozy party at the city’s Pier Head.

Sky Sports bosses were last night facing calls to axe the

42-year-old for breaching the coronavirus guidelines.

After the Premier League win on Thursday, police pleaded with fans to avoid mass gatherings.

The club said: “Celebrate safely Reds and respect our city’s public health.”

While Liverpool’s Mayor Joe Anderson said: “I appreciate LFC fans want to celebrate but please, for your own safety and that of others, go home and celebrate at home.

“Covid-19 is still a major risk and our city has already lost far too many people to the illness.”

But ex-Liverpool defender Carragher was seen boasting he would be enjoying a boozy night during an appearance on Sky Sports. In a video link-up with Kop captain Jordan

Henderson, he held a bottle of champagne and said: “Tell me you’re going to get absolutely rotten tonight – like me!

“Come on Jordan. Go for it lad. Enjoy yourself!”

It is feared mass gatherings could cause coronavirus to spread and put more pressure on the NHS.

Carragher’s gaffe comes two years after he was filmed spitting at fans while driving.

The latest snaps of him at the celebrations have sparked social media outrage.

One student paramedic said: “We have ex-Liverpool players at pier head, condoning mass gatherings and showing a lack of Respect for Covid-19 Rules.”

Another messaged Sky Sports and said: “How can you possibly allow your employee @Carra23 to continue to work for you when he’s today breached lockdown rules and guidelines being with the crowds at Pier Head?”

Sky Sports had made no comment last night, but a source close to the former England ace insisted he only went to accompany his son and followed social distancing.
