Even the noisy neighbours are getting in on the act..
FOOTIE stars are queuing up to get their hands on a £100,000 military-style car.
Five Manchester United players have bought the “virtually indestructable” Mercedes-Benz G-Class, known as the G Wagen.
Striker Marcus Rashford even had his wrapped in camouflage green to complete the Army look.
A United insider said: “It is hardly a low-profile vehicle, but it does makes him feel safer.
“A few more of the lads also felt it was a good option and now the car park resembles an Army base.”
Rashford’s team-mates Daniel James, Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have also bought the 2,500kg machines. Away from Old Trafford, Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City pair Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne have also bought the G Wagen.
Premier League players have been hit by high-profile burglaries in recent months.
Stars also know they could be targeted by criminals on the streets.
Our insider told us: “A lot of the younger guys are ditching Bentleys in favour of G Wagens.
“These motors are certainly more practical and give peace of mind.”
Despite its size, the car can go from
0-60mph in 4.4 seconds, but it only does 17mpg in town.
It starts at £96,000 but many buyers spend tens of thousands more on extras to customise them.
United winger Daniel James, 22, has been getting a ribbing since buying his G Wagen.
Some staff at the side’s Carrington training base joked that the
5ft 7in Wales ace might need a step ladder to get in and out of it.
But our source said: “Daniel is really happy with his vehicle and it gives him plenty of kudos.”
