Matlock said: “Led Zeppelin turned up to check out The Damned. I got introduced to Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at the bar, as The Damned had just finished playing and they’d gone off stage.

“The next thing, there was a big kerfuffle on stage. I looked around and the Zeps’ drummer, John Bonham, he’s going, ‘What is this?! What is this?! Twenty

Minutes? We play for four f***ing hours! Get the band back up here.’

“He was off his face, he didn’t realise they were doing two sets.

“Next thing, he’s being carried diagonally up the stairs by the roadies and

Plant and Page didn’t know where to look. It was funny, but it was great they’d actually come down to check out the punk movement.”

But it wasn’t all scuffles and trash talk. He laughed as he remembered Cher and her husband Gregg Allman being turned away from a punk show. He said: “In the queue one night at The Vortex were these people in flowing outfits, chiffon scarves, flares and hairy coats.

“I could hear the Glaswegian doorman, John, say, ‘I don’t care who you is, there’s no f***ing way you’re coming in, that’s that!’

“And they were going: ‘Hey Man but...’ The response was swift, ‘There’s no way you’re coming in, now f*** off.’”

AVENGERS fans were treated to a tonne of news this week as Square Enix looked to ramp up excitement for its upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game.

The hugely ambitious online multiplayer title debuted a new story trailer, gameplay trailer, and gameplay video (all available on dailystar.co.uk) showing the full breadth and width of what’s in store for players when the game arrives on September 4.

Best of all, with the developers looking to support the game for years to come with new content and characters, Square Enix confirmed that players who own the current-gen version of the title will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version at no additional cost.

In addition, cross-gen play will be supported. So PlayStation 5 players will be able to play with their friends on PlayStation 4 and Xbox Series X players will be connected with pals on Xbox One.

So you’ll be able to assemble with all your friends regardless of which console is sitting under the telly.
