-

HE’S spending a sixth week at No1, but life could just as easily have been cut short for

The US rapper behind huge summer smash Rockstar had his home broken into by six armed robbers early on in his career.

It was his flamboyant lifestyle that may have made him a target.

Dababy, above right, explained: “My face was so hot, but I was still living like normal doing my thang. “I had posters air-dropped throughout my city, my social media posters in every hood.

“I had $50,000 worth of jewellery on all the time, at the grocery store, everywhere.”

One day, Dababy woke up at his apartment to hear people kicking down the door.

He explained: “They were creeping towards me, six people five or six, I turned a corner and I popped his ass.

“They were shooting back, five times. I didn’t get hit.”

He injured one of the burglars and they fled, but it made Dababy realise how close he came. The religious star said: “Made me feel like baby Jesus, I’m here for a reason. “It’s a higher power. Regardless of how I talk. I understand all of this. I know where it came from and its bigger than me.” During lockdown he landed the hit of his career with 7.7million streams of Rockstar in the UK alone.

Back home, the American is enjoying a quieter life now.

He said: “I’ve been loving it – playing basketball, chopping down trees in my yard, regular things I wanted to do. “And other creative ideas. I’ve been on the road I don’t know how long. It’s been a blessing to me.”
