Dyche swoop will cost cool £6m
SEAN DYCHE won’t leave Burnley – unless his new club hand over £6million.
The highly rated Clarets chief has a massive get-out clause built into the four-year deal he agreed two seasons ago.
And Dyche, 48, is now hot property after cracks began appearing in the relationship between him and chairman Mike Garlick.
But if the former Chesterfield defender leaves Turf Moor, he won’t be doing so on the cheap.
Dyche will be due around £3m if he is sacked.
However, that is dwarfed by the fee that the Lancashire club will receive if he is tempted away.
But it is not an issue between chairman and manager that is threatening to spill over as technical director Mike Rigg is at the heart of the problems between the two top men.
The relationship between Dyche and Rigg is strained – a situation not helped by the fact that Garlick oversaw the latter’s appointment late in 2018.
There are disagreements over how the club should move forward.
The manager wants to choose his playing staff while Rigg sees his job as protecting Burnley’s position in case Dyche goes – and that is the obstacle the club is trying to overcome.
His failure to name nine substitutes ahead of the defeat at Manchester City sent out a message about the lack of resources after several players, including Jeff Hendrick and Aaron Lennon, did not have their contracts extended.
However, if Dyche does call time on his seven-year stay, it is unclear exactly which club will foot the bill for his exit.
Crystal Palace have long been touted as a potential destination but Roy Hodgson agreed a new contract there in March to take him through to the end of the 2021 campaign.
Aston Villa would interest Dyche if they were to part company with Dean Smith.
