Baby boy is critical after fall

-

A BABY boy who fell 50ft from a third-floor window was last night in a critical condition in hospital.

The child, aged one, suffered a serious head injury after plunging from a YMCA hostel being used to house vulnerable adults.

A witness said: “I didn’t see it happen, but I heard screaming from a woman. It was gut-wrenching.

“There were so many cops and ambulance people here. I’m praying the child is going to be OK.”

West Midlands Police were last night investigating how the baby fell from the building in Erdington, Birmingham, at about 7.30pm on Friday.

A cordon was placed behind the property, where residential rooms look out over a railway line.

The baby is believed to have fallen between the building and train track.

Yesterday a small piece of clothing remained on the ground, surrounded by green fasteners from firstaid kits used by ambulance crews to treat the infant.
