Trump is slammed for Stone jail let-off
and “laying waste” to American values. Leading Democrat Elizabeth Warren claimed the decision shows Trump to be “the most corrupt president in history”. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam
Schiff described Stone as “a crony who lied and obstructed our investigation to protect Trump” and said the move was “offensive to the rule of law and principles of justice”.
Stone, 67, was convicted in November of lying to Congress, obstruction and witness tampering.
He had been due to report to a federal prison in Jesup,
Georgia, on Tuesday to begin his sentence.
But on Friday, the White House revealed Trump had signed an Executive Order of Clemency commuting his “unjust sentence” but not pardoning him.
Stone was the President’s sixth aide to be found guilty of charges arising from alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US election.
