PRESIDENT? NO YOU KANYE NOT – WILL.I.AM BLASTS RAPPER’S BID
WILL.I.AM has slammed Kanye West over his bid to become US president.
The Black Eyed Peas star, 45, claims the stunt is “dangerous”. He told the Daily Star Sunday: “I don’t even know how real that is. “It’s a dangerous thing to be playing with.
“If you’re not serious, you don’t play with that, especially now. “Like… what the f***. Seriously? I don’t even know what community service you do. “It’s been a crazy three months. You have all these things happening at the same time in America, which is nuts – like racial sh** being stirred.” Kanye, 43, last week declared: “We must now realise the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. “I am running for president of the United States.”
The rapper has since revealed he plans to have his wife Kim Kardashian, 39, as his adviser and run the White House like Wakanda – the fictional country in the hit film Black Panther. Will, who produced the song Yes We Can during Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, says there are better ways for Kanye to make a difference without running in the November election. The star, who is a coach on The Voice Kids, said: “There’s so many ways to do community service other than politics. You don’t have to run for office to change the quality and conditions of people’s lives for the better.
“For the past 11 years, I’ve gone back to the ghetto I am from and started a school. I started with 65 kids and now I have 720 kids and growing.
“Our kids have gone off to colleges they probably never thought they’d go to, studying things you probably never thought they’d study.
“So you don’t have to be a politician to protect the youth and set them on the right course to provide, and send kids to college debt-free where they don’t have crazy tuition bills.”
It’s not the first time the chart rivals have butted horns.
Two years ago, Kanye sparked outrage when he made controversial comments about slavery.
He said: “When you hear about slavery for 400 years.
“For 400 years? That sounds like a choice. We’re mentally imprisoned.”
Will was infuriated by the suggestion and publicly criticised Kanye. He said: “If your thoughts aren’t researched, that is just going to hurt those that are still in conditions where it’s not a choice.
“I hope it’s not to raise awareness so you could sell a record and some shoes, because that would be the worst thing to do, to stir up this very touchy race situation and you be the benefactor from it.
“I don’t like talking about going against my community, but that is harmful… I will not throw my ancestors under the bus to profit.”
