Sky’s the limit for unique Falklands jump jet

- By ANDY GARDNER

A JUMP jet from the time of the Falklands War could wing its way back to the UK.

The unique FA2 Sea Harrier is the world’s only civilian-owned version of the Royal Navy plane that is still flying.

It is being sold along with two more rare Harriers by US collector Art Nalls.

Aviation enthusiasts hope they could be bought by a

British collector and flown at airshows here.

The owners won’t state a price for the jets but say it is “many, many millions”.

There are only a small number of Harriers still flying with the US Marines and in Europe with the Italian and Spanish navies. The trio of planes now on sale, including an airworthy two-seater trainer, are the last flyable civilian ones.

No privately owned planes are operating outside of the United States.

The jets are being sold by Courtesy Aircraft Sales.

Art said: “The entire stable is for sale, including spares, support equipment, manuals and expert advice and training. We ain’t done flying, by a long shot, but it’s time for someone else to pick up the torch and continue the Harrier story.”

Art has flown the FA2 Sea Harrier since 2014 after buying it from the Ministry of Defence in 2005.

The “unforgiving” aircraft was built by Hawker-Siddley in 1979 and was used as a test aircraft before being retired in 2004.
