Ste’s rise is right on cue

HOT Scot Stephen Maguire is gunning to cause carnage at the World Championship.

The Glaswegian, 39, won £260,000 by blowing away the field at the Tour Championship in Milton Keynes last month – his first ranking title for seven years.

And the world No.9 (below) will head to Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre later this month hungry to claim his maiden world crown.

He said: “This must be the best I’ve felt going into the Worlds.

“I can’t have any more confidence. I’d just accepted I might not win titles again, but the pressure is off me now.

“Whatever happens now at the Crucible I can’t complain, I’ve had a good season, but I’d love to do well there.

“It’s something you dream of doing.”

The event runs from July 31 to August 16.
