SHILTON IN SALUTE

- By MICHAEL HAM

FORMER England goalkeeper Peter Shilton (above) paid tribute to “underrated” Jack Charlton.

He said: “I was very fond of Jack and very sad to hear he has passed away and another one of the ’66 World Cup squad to have died. He will be remembered very fondly and was a great character.

“I was in the England squad with him at the end of his career more or less and at the start of mine. I played against him for the great Leeds United team and he was very underrated as a player.

“He was very dominant in the air and had more ability than people gave him credit for.”
