Fido gets a fur-star getaway

- By HANNAH PHILLIPS

THERE’S no such thing as a ruff night’s sleep for the pampered pups at this luxury hotel for dogs.

It has apartment suites, plush cottages, gourmet buffets and a swimming pool.

The suites are heated with handmade beds and TVs which allow hounds to listen to music and watch telly.

Minnie Hall, owner of Hilltop Retreat in St Neots, Cambs, also hosts dog parties that have a buffet filled with canine-friendly baked goods. The mum of one, inset, said: “I looked at other five-star kennels and didn’t like the look of any of them.

“I wanted to create a home from home where the dogs don’t have to be shut in and there are no bars or cages. And we get to know them before they come here to make sure it’s the right environment for them.”

Pampered pooches staying at the luxury retreat can expect a handmade dog bed – with a pillow and duvet in the winter.

Each room comes equipped with a TV showing the Dog Channel. And for older or anxious dogs who prefer peace and quiet, they can choose to stay in a remote “cottage” on the estate.

A full 24 hours at Hilltop Retreat will cost £36 for an apartment or two-storey cottage set within the 17 acres of greenery.

The plush family-run hotel, built by Minnie’s partner Paul, also has a spa managed by her sister – a trained canine, equine and human masseur. There’s a hydrotherapy pool, a water treadmill and an agility and fitness course. Minnie, 44, added: “We want to turn one barn into a veterinary area because I think if we had a vet on site it would take us to the next level.”
