SKINNERFLINT Frank: I hate tipping, carry my own bags in hotels and will only pay £9.99 for a book

CAMPING looks set to be the holiday of choice for many of us this year.

And when the mercury drops, a four-season sleeping bag will keep you nice and warm.

This UK-designed OEX one has 600-fill duck down insulation which meets Responsible Down Standards. It’s ideal for temperatures as low as -5C and packs down small.

I loved it.

£179.99 from GO Outdoors, who have reopened with a big July sale and unbeatable deals instore and online. See gooutdoors.co.uk.

FRANK Skinner says he resents having to tip people.

He also argues with hotel staff who try to carry his bags for a bit of extra cash and won’t pay more than £9.99 for a book.

The Brummie comedian, 63, said it eats away at him when he has to tip, no matter how small the amount.

Frank said: “I’m not a great tipper. I’m not a man who can just tip and then forget about it.

“I tip and then it nags at me what I could have got with that tip.

“I’m bitterly resentful about tipping. It makes me feel like I’ve been stolen from.

“I was in Japan where they don’t tip and I thought, ‘I could live here.’”

Skinner said when he checks in at a hotel he is immediately on guard in case the staff try to sting him.

He said he makes a point of carrying his own bags and even wrestles them away from hotel workers.

He added: “I make a real thing of carrying my own bags and they say, ‘No, no, no sir’ and I say, ‘I’m fine, I can carry a bag.’

“I don’t want them to come to my room and then show me how to open the curtains for a fiver or whatever it is.

“Charge me more and then I won’t have to even think about it, but I can feel it in my stomach – the whole tension of tipping.” He also revealed that he will not spend more than £9.99 on a book, even though he is a published author. Frank said: “I will often not buy a book I want if it is over £10.

“If it is a paperback and it is over £10 I won’t get it – £9.99 is my limit.”

He said two removal men recently delivered a new table to his home after lockdown and he felt the need to tip them £10 each after they assembled it.

But the thought of paying up played on his mind afterwards.

The comedian said: “They were among the first outsiders to come in. They didn’t have masks or gloves, but they brought it in and assembled it.

“I gave them £20 between them and then it nagged at me about what I could have got for that tip – and would it have mattered if I had offended two strangers?” ‘STUNG’: Frank hates handing over his cash as tips
