MICKY’S TOUGH-GUY TACTICS

- EXCLUSIVE by ALEX WOOD

LEICESTER need to bully Manchester United duo David de Gea and Bruno Fernandes, according to ex-Foxes boss Micky Adams.

The Foxes must defeat the Red Devils at the King Power Stadium to secure Champions League football next season. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in a rich vein of form and haven’t lost in the Premier League since January. Erratic performances from goalkeeper De Gea (left) have been a cause for concern, though. The Spaniard dropped another clanger against Chelsea in an FA Cup semi-final defeat last weekend. Adams, who managed Leicester from 2002 to 2004, says Brendan Rodgers’ players will be ready to unsettle the shaky United No.1.

“Leicester always put pressure on goalkeepers,” he said. “They get the ball forward and aren’t afraid to launch it into the box.

“Any keeper that’s having a difficult time they will always look to target.

“De Gea is no different to anybody else and all keepers have off days – it goes with the territory.

“But because he’s at Manchester United there’s even more scrutiny.

“It’s not helped by how well Dean

Henderson has played at Sheffield United. Of course there’s going to be questions asked.”

Midfielder Fernandes (right) has been a standout performer since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January.

Adams reckons keeping him quiet will at the forefront of Rodgers’ plans.

“Another factor will be making sure Fernandes doesn’t get any time on the ball,” he added. “But that’s not game-changing tactics, it’s standard management off the training ground.

“Give good players time and they hurt you. So while I don’t think they’ll specifically man-mark him, as soon as he gets near the ball he’ll be quickly closed down.”
