Mel C spins into DJ gig SPICE GIRL TAKES ON NEW CHALLENGE

-

The had a go at mixing twin record decks a couple of years ago and has gone on to become part of the club scene, which has rubbed off on her upcoming new album. She explained: “It was something I always wanted a crack at but was always a bit too scared. I eventually built up the courage and that first gig was petrifying, but I fell in love with it.

“It’s interesting because I performed with the Spice Girls, as a solo artist and in musical theatre, but DJing you experience audiences in a different way. It not only made me look at the crowd differently it made me listen to music differently.

“So when I started making this album

I knew I wanted people to dance to it but also I wanted them to listen to it and I tested it the other week and had it on as background and

I was pleased.

“It’s thoughtful and powerful lyrically and also full of moments of sheer joy.”

The LP Melanie C lands October 2 and the arrangements were aimed at the dancefloor.

She said: “DJing has made me so much more into remixes.

“As an artist you are sometimes nervous of remixes as it’s not how you wanted it to sound, but now seeing it from a DJ’s perspective I really enjoyed getting into that. There are some slower downtempo moments but it’s predominantly bangers.”

Mel has also dropped new single In And Out Of Love which re-teams her with an old Spice Girls acquaintance.

She explained: “I wrote it with

“Everyone knows Biff from the Spice Girls days of Wannabe, Goodbye and so many biggies, it was lovely working with him again.

“In and Out Of Love is about finding romance on the dancefloor. We shot the video at Ally Pally in London.

“We wouldn’t have got that if it hadn’t been for lockdown. We had lots of dancers which was interesting with social distancing.”
