GAZZA’S £1M BIKE BUY BAMBOOZLE

PAUL Gascoigne once woke up after a booze binge to discover he had splashed out £1million buying 10 Harley-Davidson bikes.

His ex-England colleague Terry Butcher said a puzzled Gazza, inset, ended up keeping one but sold the rest back to the dealer – and took a huge hit in the pocket.

Terry, 61, revealed: “One night we were staying at the same hotel. Later the next morning, he looked out of his window and there were 10 Harley-Davidsons parked on the lawn. He went downstairs and asked a hotel worker, ‘Was there a Harley-Davidson show in the area?’

“The reply stunned Gazza. ‘No, sir, they are all yours. You bought them last night.’

“They had been £100,000 each and he had secured 10.”

Terry added: “He went off to search for the guy he had bought them off.

“He told him he could only ride one – not 10 – so could he take nine of them back? The guy refused but in the end they agreed a deal.

“Gazza still ended up losing £500,000.”

In the new book Our Gazza: The Untold Tales, another ex-player told how Gazza, now 53, tried to hide his alcohol addiction by sneaking vodka into a “doctor’s bag”.

Gordon Armstrong, who played with him at Burnley at the end of his career, said: “We went to Southampton for a game. It’s a long trip and so all the isotonic drinks and health stuff was being handed out on the coach. “Unbeknown to the managerial staff, he was filling his bottles with vodka from his doctor’s bag. “He was drinking all the way to the South Coast and so by the time we arrived he was completely pie-eyed.”
