No LOLs. Mum’s fury at girl’s doll in fishnets

- By CHARLES WADE-PALMER

A MUM was speechless when she discovered her daughter’s doll appeared to be wearing a fishnet bodystocking, knee-high boots and “shackles” on her wrists when dipped in water.

Lisa McBride tested five-yearold Ashton’s LOL Surprise! Doll after seeing a video online from a concerned mother in

New Zealand.

And she was shocked at the saucy transformation. tion.

Lisa, 40, checked d Ashton’s dolls and d said: “The first one e was enough for me. I took its clothes off and put it under cold water.

“At first it came up only slightly, but what shocked me more was that when I put it in iced water it came up straight away.

“The doll had stuff uff on the arms and legs.

“It looked like it was wearing fishnet tights, knee-high boots, and to me it looked like it had shackles or something on its wrist – two black bands.

“My stomach dropped; the fact it had changed so much.

“They’re for ages three and up, very young children anyway. They are surprise dolls. They come in balls and you can’t see which one you get. You get different things for it, clothes and things. But that isn’t for kids.”

The LOL Surprise! franchise – which stands for Little Outrageous Little Surprise – is a favourite of young girls worldwide and Lisa’s daughter Ashton had a few in her toy box.

The mu mum, from Law in Carluk Carluke, Lanarks, post posted about her sho shock online and wa was swamped with messages from other parents who had found the same thing. One woman sa said she had a do doll wearing what looked like suspen suspenders, with another’s doll having a tattoo tattoo. Fact-ch Fact-checking website Snopes.com said the dolls were designed to change when put in water. Lisa added: “It’s not right.

I’m not going to be buying any more. It’s very dark.” MGA Entertainment, who make LOL Surprise! dolls did not respond to our request for a comment.
