‘GREEDY BOSS SLAYED JIMI’
Guitar hero was ‘murdered’ claim
ROCK legend Jimi Hendrix was murdered by his British manager, a TV documentary claims. It alleges the guitar icon was fed sleeping pills before having bottles of red wine poured down his throat.
In a rare interview, his brother Leon claims: “I believe he was wine-boarded – you know how they do that with water? I think they did that to him with wine when he was incapacitated.”
Two-hour special Jimi Hendrix: A Perfect Murder? will be shown in the US on September 19, the day after the 50th anniversary of his death in London.
A postmortem concluded the star choked on his own vomit due to “barbiturate intoxication”. An inquest jury returned an open verdict, calling the 27-year-old’s death in 1970 “suspicious”. Suspicion fell on Hendrix’s manager, former Army intelligence officer Mike Jeffery. He owed money to UK and US tax authorities, as well as Warner Brothers Records who lent him a fortune to build a studio. Jeffery had taken out a £1.2million life insurance policy on Jimi, whose contract with him was due to end in December 1970.
He died in a French plane crash in 1973, and former roadie James “Tappy” Wright claimed he had co confessed to the killing.
W Wright said Jeffery told him in 1971: “I had to do it. Jimi was worth much more to me de dead than alive.
“That son of a bitch was going to leave me. If I lost him, I’d lose everything.” The documentary also reveals Hendrix’s g girlfriend Monika Dannemann gave wildly d differing accounts of finding his body to po police, medics and the media.
S She died in 1996 aged 50. Wright claims in an int interview: “I think she got him high so there was no re resistance when they came in.”
