JUR THE ONE THAT WE WANT!

Klopp beats Pep in Prem fan poll

- TOM HOPKINSON

JURGEN KLOPP has thrashed Pep Guardiola in a poll asking Premier League fans to name which top-flight manager they’d want at their club.

The Liverpool gaffer took 40.4 per cent of the vote to claim top spot on the back ck of the Reds’ first title triumph in 30 years.

Manchester City boss Guardiola, la, with 16.4 per cent, was second in the e survey, which was completed by

Sky Bet in partnership with YouGov.

Wolves chief Nuno Espirito

Santo was third with 7.7 per cent but Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer finished 16th with just 0.7 per cent of the vote.

Incredibly, 47 per cent of the United ed fans polled said they’d rather have Klopp at the wheel than Solskjaer – and 20 per cent said they’d rather have Guardiola.

Former Liverpool captain Phil Thompson (inset) isn’t surprised that Klopp is seen as the cream of the crop.

He said: “The biggest thing is when, as a manager, you transcend all the Premier League clubs – the supporters, even United and Everton fans, like him.

“All that likeability, there aren’t too many like that who all fans can take to.

“That doesn’t make him a good manager, but it makes him have that little bit of X factor where you go, ‘I quite get that fella, he’s got what I like, I like his passion’.

“First of all you have to be passionate about your club, your team, and fans get that with Klopp.

“And he has that likeable image that makes people go, ‘I wish we had him’.

“That has grown on us

Liverpool fans even more since we’ve had him as our manager. On top of that, he is

“O “On tactical and technical knowhow, you hear a lot of other managers sp speak so highly about what he does. “He’s adaptable and he’s not scared to change a tactic during a game, certainly at half-time. “With the break ahead of Project Re Restart you could see him tactically gett getting into his players as well, and his tactic tactical knowhow is special.

“I thought th it was a coup getting him in the first place because he’s a top-class manager but he’s even better than I thought.”

If Klopp wasn’t around, Thompson – who won seven Division One titles and three European Cups under Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley – would have voted for Guardiola. He added: “I love him. He’s a winner, another intense manager and I always look at managers who I would want to play for and Pep ticks all those boxes. “You can see he cares about players. “You can be an intense coach and totally focused but you also have to look after the well-being not just of your players but their families as well. That to me is another important aspect if you want to be a top manager these days.”
