It’s three and easy as Mbeumo swoops to seal Bees’ victory

JOSH DASILVA made history with the first league goal scored at Brentford’s new ground as Thomas Frank’s side celebrated in style.

The 17,000-capacity Community Stadium may have been empty, but a fired-up Bees team still rolled over Huddersfield.

Brentford agonisingly missed out on promotion to the Premier League – by two points in the regular campaign and then again in the play-off final to Fulham.

But a first league win this season, with further late goals from Marcus Forss and Bryan Mbeumo, made it a perfect Championship housewarming party.

French striker Mbeumo, 21, looks set to be the only member of last season’s famed ‘BMW’ attack left.

Ollie Watkins was sold to Aston Villa with Said Benrahma – left out again yesterday – likely to be moving on.

Algerian playmaker Benrahma has been strongly linked with a host of Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal.

A delighted Frank said: “Of course I am very pleased. We want to make the new stadium a fortress as soon as possible.

“This is how I wished it during my morning run in Richmond Park.

“We have lost two wheels from the BMW. If things are right and we get the right offer for Said and we are happy, things can happen there.

“It is no secret there are a lot of things going on in his head, so I decided not to include him.

“But Bryan – that goal at the end was pure quality. Drop your shoulder and bang, into the top corner. I have big expectations for him this season.

“And the goal for Josh, a very good one and the first in this stadium in a league game, is some nice history for him.”

Ivan Toney, chasing a first goal since his

£10m move from Peterborough, saw his shot saved with his feet et by Ben Hamer on his

300th league start. Bees midfielder Christian Norgaard was lucky to escape with a booking after 40 minutes for diving in wildly on Juninho Bacuna.

Luke Daniels tipped over a fierce Isaac Mbenza drive – but Huddersfield, who had already seen Harry Toffolo limp off, then lost Christopher Schindler to injury.

Dasilva got his goal after 58 minutes. Rico Henry skipped away on the left and from his pull-back Dasilva drove the ball home.

The Terriers did hit the post through Bacuna’s header from Pritchard’s corner.

But the home side wrapped it up in the final minutes.

Mbeumo was crowded out but sub Marcus Forss – a Finland Under-21s star – buried the loose ball.

And then Mbeumo crashed in a superb third for the Bees in stoppage time.
