MAURA Higgins is a girl who knows exactly what she wants – and she’s not going to apologise for it.
The Love Island star, 29, does not care if people don’t like her.
And that feisty attitude is inspiring other women to be just like her.
Maura told the Daily Star Sunday: “I am always going to do what makes me happy. It’s my life so I’m going to do whatever I feel is best, no matter what anyone says.
“I don’t care about people judging me. Doing what makes you happy is the most important thing in life.”
Maura became one of Love Island’s biggest success stories thanks to her ballsy personality.
During her time on the ITV2 show last year she divided opinion by being frank about sex and relationships.
And she is not about to change. She said: “I am upfront about what I want and people respond to it very well. They appreciate the fact that I’m not afraid to talk about whatever I want. “I don’t think anyone should be afraid to do that. We should be able to talk about anything and not be judged for it. I have had a lot of young women come up to me and say I have inspired them. That puts a tear in my eye.”
Maura’s attitude has made her a target for internet trolls but she refuses to let them get to her. And she can’t understand why they feel the need to turn nasty.
Maura said: “Some people forget that even when you’re in the public eye you’re still a human being. I am still the girl from a very small town in Ireland. I still feel like the same person.
“People look at someone on TV and judge them just because of the job they do.
“But I’m still a normal person – I still have normal feelings.
“When you’re in the public eye, everyone is going to have an opinion about everything you’re doing; who you are dating, what you’re wearing, your hair.
“You’re always going to have trolls and you’re always going to get people’s opinions. But I tend to not look at messages I get online. It’s best to stay away from that. So I ignore it and I don’t let that stuff get to me.” Since finding fame on Love Island, where she hooked up with dancer Curtis Pritchard, Maura has become one of TV’s most talked-about stars.
In less than 18 months she has starred in Dancing On Ice, filmed her own reality show for ITV and been a presenter on This Morning. She said: “There’s a lot going on at the moment. I have so much TV stuff coming up, which I’m so excited about because I love TV. That’s something I want to continue doing.”
Maura is also the face of make-up brand Inglot Cosmetics and is fronting a second collection for them. She added: “Working with such a big brand is crazy.
