‘TRASH MOUTH’ COMIC IS NOT THE SENSITIVE TYPE KATHERINE: I don’t care if people hate me

-

The comic has had to grow a thick skin since finding fame on shows including Live At The Apollo and Mock The Week.

She said: “It’s impossible to be liked by everyone. I wish I knew that when I was a teenager.

“A lot of my friends’ dads and grandads and grandmas really dislike my trash mouth and all the ideas that I have and everything I say. “I’m very comfortable with that.” Katherine isn’t even bothered if people slate her new sitcom The Duchess. The show, which she created, wrote and stars in, has had mixed reviews since its launch on Netflix last month.

But she isn’t worried as she fully expected it. Katherine said: “I am not sensitive. I count on people not liking it – that’s always been a part of what I do.

“Of course my preference is that people enjoy it. I don’t think anyone goes to work hoping to disappoint the general public.

“I would be so thrilled if people laughed and people related to it. But the reality is, especially when you are a divisive character as I am, there will be people who aggressively hate it or feel confused and attacked by it.

“It’s out of my hands now. I tried the best that I could to make a project authentic to me and that people would love.

“But if they don’t, then they are entitled not to.”

The Duchess sees Katherine playing a mum battling the pitfalls of parenthood.

It also stars Rory Keenan, Katy Byrne and Sophie Fletcher.

And there’s also a brief appearance by TV presenter Maya Jama in her first highprofile acting role.

All episodes are available to stream on Netflix.
