‘Mum needed me’ HERO LAD HONOURED AFTER SAVING RAVINE-FALL PARENT
A BOY of 11 has won a bravery award for rescuing his mum in a mountain top ordeal.
Sebastian Williams showed selfless courage when mum Suzanne tumbled into a ravine while they were walking up a 3,694ft peak.
Before dad Derek could stop him, young Sebi scrambled 300ft to the bottom of the ravine, where he found Suzanne barely conscious.
Sebi, who was 10 at the time, says he didn’t think twice about getting to his mum. He said: “I knew she needed me. I managed to get to her, and she was curled in a ball.
“I couldn’t see what injuries she had but I could tell she was badly hurt.”
Derek added: “It felt like it was happening in slow motion. She was bouncing down the mountain, her body being battered.”
Suzanne managed to call 999 but was in so much pain that Sebi had to take control and talk to the rescue team.
He said: “They needed me to stay on the line, keep talking to them and trying to let them know where we were.
“I kept holding Mum’s hand, talking to her so she didn’t fall asleep.”
Sebi had to keep himself together again this week during a surprise visit from David Beckham, who presented him with his Pride Of Britain award. The youngster had arrived at a London hotel thinking he was there for a TV interview, but gasped as the ex-England football captain walked in.
Becks told him: “I’ve heard all about your story and it is so inspiring.”
Sebi said: “I couldn’t believe it. He said I’d been very brave. It’s great to be rewarded but I’m just happy that I have my mum.”
Suzanne, 43, spent three weeks in hospital after her ordeal on Ben Cruachan, in Argyll and Bute. Her son was nominated for a prestigious Child Of Courage award by the Oban Mountain Rescue Team.
The family, from Hammersmith, west London, repaid them by scaling Ben Nevis and raising £14,000 for them.
