Toney goes on the lash as blunted Bees stop buzzing

- By IAN BAKER

IVAN TONEY summed up Brentford’s frustration as he was booked for lashing out at the end of this second consecutive shut-out.

Last year’s beaten play-off finalists appear to have lost their mojo as they struggled for ideas.

And 10-goal Toney, who found the net for fun earlier in this campaign, was kept quiet all before his dust-up with Josh Knight.

Bees boss Thomas Frank said: “I don’t know exactly what happened but Ivan and the Wycombe guy had some pushing. It was nothing major.

“We all want to win, we were favourites to win, and that can build up.

“We did not hit the highest rhythm and we need ed to keep a cool head.

“We lacked composure and flair. We just did not create enough.

“But are we feeling the pressure? The short answer to that is no. We’re very confident that we can get to a good place.”

Brentford are 11th and already five points off the top six.

They could have gone behind early on as Curtis Thompson’s cross was tipped on to the bar by David Raya. However, the Bees had the better of the first half after that. Bryan Mbeumo’s effort was brilliantly pushed on to the post by Ryan A Allsop before he shot wide befo before the break. Wycombe turned the screw in the second half with another spirited showing.

The Chairboys have now lost just one of their l last five and are a point fro from safety.

T They could have snatched all thre three points late on when Daryl Horgan was denied by Raya. Manager Gareth Ainsworth (above) said: “If we do survive it will be because everyone is together.” Allsop 7; Grimmer 6, Knight 8, Stewart 7, Jacobson 6; Wheeler 6 (McCleary (62nd) 6), Gape 6 (Onyedinma (73rd) 6), Thompson 7, Horgan 7; Akinfenwa 6, Kashket 7 (Samuel (62nd) 6)
