SHE’LL STAR WITH SID AS HOLOGRAM

- EXCLUSIVE by ED GLEAVE edward.gleave@dailystar.co.uk

BARBARA Windsor is set to appear in three new Carry On films, the Daily Star Sunday can reveal.

Producers plan to use a hologram of the star, who died aged 83 on Thursday.

The movies, which will be released nearly 30 years after the last instalment, are being made by Carry On Films Ltd.

Company boss Brian Baker said: “We have got two new stories and we are looking to do one of the old ones again to bring it up to modern-day quality – probably Carry On Sergeant.

“Barbara will be making an appearance. It will be a tilt of the head to say, ‘Well done’. That’s the best way to do it.

“We are looking at using a hologram from old footage to put her in a situation like a queue for the Royal Albert Hall or serving in a shop.

“People loved her because she was down to earth. She saw the funny side. She didn’t take offence. She had the oldfashioned British seaside humour.”

Other legends including the late Sid James and Kenneth Williams will also feature. Brian added: “We want to honour the legacy of producer Peter Rogers. He is the unsung hero of the Carry On films.”

The movies are due to go into production next spring and be released in 2022. It is planned to show them on a streaming service such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video so fans can watch at home.

Brian said: “We’re talking to a new ensemble of characters. We want new idiosyncrasies and personalities. We’re not going to copy what’s gone before.”

The Carry On franchise has been synonymous with British culture since the first film, Carry On Sergeant, in 1958.

Dame Barbara starred in nine, including Carry On Spying, Carry On Dick and Carry On Camping. The most recent, Carry On Columbus, was in 1992.

Brian added: “There is a big appetite for more Carry On. There was a time when the British could laugh at themselves and that is what is missing today.”
