DAWN IS GIVEN COLE SHOULDER

Village drama axed after just one series

-

DAWN French’s ITV drama The Trouble With Maggie Cole has been axed, Hot TV can reveal. Bosses have pulled the plug after a single series.

A spokesman said: “The Trouble With Maggie Cole won’t be returning for a second series. “We’d like to thank all the cast and crew for bringing the show to our screens.” The programme about village life has been dropped after it failed to pull in big ratings. It was aired in a plum 9pm slot in March, but viewing figures failed to match the channel’s average for that time.

Insiders at ITV reckon that Dawn will be disappointed by the decision to ditch the series because she loved working on it.

It was filmed in Devon and she lives down the road in Cornwall.

At the time, she said: “It’s been a pleasure and we’ve had so much fun filming.

“I loved recommending places to visit and things to do in Devon and Cornwall, plus where to find the best Cornish pasties and cream teas.” The six-part series also starred Coronation Street legend Julie Hesmondhalgh Casualty actor Patrick Robinson.

Despite the setback, Dawn’s acting career is still going strong.

The star is back on the box this month in a revival of her classic comedy The Vicar Of Dibley.

And this Christmas she is starring in Roald & Beatrix: The Tail Of The Curious Mouse, on Sky One.

The decision to drop her show comes just months after ITV bosses axed Sheridan Smith’s series Cleaning Up.

Let’s hope we don’t see Dawn popping up on any naff Google adverts anytime soon, then… and
