The power of love is making difference for striker Solanke

- By TOM HOPKINSON

JASON TINDALL reckons all Dominic Solanke needed was love after the Bournemouth frontman struck twice to make it six goals in seven games.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool youngster struggled in his first season-and-ahalf after joining in January 2019.

But after helping to put Huddersfield to the sword with the first two goals of this rout, he earned some big praise from his manager.

“He has been on a really good run,” said TIndall.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Dominic Solanke ever since he has been at the football club. He’s such a good team player. He offers the team so much, and the only thing that has been missing with Dom has probably been consistent goals but he’s now getting that.

“He’s feeling my love, he’s feeling the team’s love, and from everybody here at the football club, and he has really responded to that.

“He is playing with confidence and I’m really delighted with his all-round contribution.”

Solanke gave Bournemouth the lead after David Brooks shaped to shoot but instead slipped him in, and he clipped a deft finish over the diving Ben Hamer.

Asmir Begovic then made a very good save to deny Juninho Bacuna after a big deflection off Lloyd Kelly and the Cherries immediately went to the other end and scored.

Naby Sarr made a dreadful error in gifting the ball to Jefferson Lerma and he squared to Solanke, who drilled home for his second.

And if it wasn’t already, the game was effectively over after 20 minutes when Lerma crossed to Solanke, who laid the ball back for the impressive Brooks to curl home a lovely effort.

Hamer went off with a groin injury at half-time and his replacement Ryan Schofield bundled Philip Billing’s effort on to a post.

Schofield was beaten soon after, though, when Junior Stanislas scored a terrific goal, beating four players on a thrusting run before poking home.

And substitute Sam Surridge put the icing on the cake with the fifth,

sidefooting home after Solanke and Dan Gosling combined to set him up.

Tindall, who made Ajani Burchall – aged just 16 – the third-youngest Bournemouth debutant when he came on as a late substitute, said: “It was nice to give the fans a win like that.

“It’s something we’ve been waiting for a long time.”

Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan said: “It was very tough for everyone to take.

“We didn’t start the game in a good way.”
