We’ll suck it up.. just give us jab

-

MAYBE Boris Johnson was listening when I urged him to tone down the boyish enthusiasm the other week.

When he addressed us about the Covid pandemic on Monday, the Prime Minister eased up on the “sunny uplands” and told us how it really was.

He made it clear that if we get vaccines into enough arms at a rapid rate, if the dreaded R number falls and nd if pressure on the NHS is reduced, ced, then we can start looking to resume our normal lives.

However, as we are told to o lock down once again, it is crucial we enter into what is effectively a “contract” with the Government. And it should ld read something like this:

We, the Great British Public, ublic, agree to yet again give up virtually rtually all the liberties for which our forbears fought and some died.

We will only make essential journeys and will surrender again the right to go down the pub and moan about the Government.

We will not visit children, grandchildren, friends or loved ones; not partake in team sports; not keep fit in gyms nor swim in pools. Our hair will again grow out of control and we will raid our freezers to eat turkey curry from Boxing Day 2012.

We will close our theatres, cinemas and bingo halls – something even the Germans didn’t manage to do 80 years ago.

We pledge to educate our children at home and accept there will be no exams this year – dashing the dream dreams and trashing the work of mill millions of our children. Students will be forced to sta stay at home and rue the th thousands of pounds of debt th they have taken on for courses they cannot attend.

I In return you, Boris, must get the t jabs into our arms at a rate th that would make even Lewis Hamilton giddy.

You and all other agencies will work seven days a week, as will labs making the vaccine. Wherever possible you will leave supply and logistics to our brilliant military. Only then will we have the confidence in your ability to deliver on your side of the bargain.
