Young guns put to sword by Edwards

- By LIAM SHAW

PLYMOUTH took advantage of a secondstring Huddersfield side to reach the fourth round for the first time since 2008.

Argyle skipper Joe Edwards struck the winner after the visitors had twice fallen behind against Carlos Corberan’s makeshift line-up.

Romoney Crichlow and Aaron Rowe both netted their first senior goals for Huddersfield to twice give them the lead.

But Plymouth responded each time through Ryan Hardie and Panutche Camara before Edwards struck their dramatic winner.

Huddersfield made clear where their priorities lie as boss Corberan made 11 changes to the side which started last week’s league match.

Centre-half Mustapha Olagunju, 19, and winger Pat Jones, 17, made first-team debuts. Midfielders Alex Vallejo, Josh Austerfield and striker Kieran Phillips all made their first starts too.

The young guns burst out of the blocks as Crichlow got the faintest of touches on Jones’ fourth-minute corner to glance a header home.

Plymouth levelled when Hardie ran on to a through-ball and kept his cool to fire home.

The Terriers regained the lead in fine style as Rowe jinked in off the right flank and crashed a rising shot into the top corner.

Plymouth equalised for a second time shortly before the break, with Camara turning home Danny Mayor’s cut-back.

The Pilgrims edged decisively ahead in the 70th minute as Mayor wriggled free and set up Edwards who finished with a low shot from close range.
