Jimmy’s Brewers halt their poor form

-

JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK claimed the first win of his second reign as Burton boss as League One’s bottom club won 1-0 at Gillingham.

Hayden Carter grabbed the only goal of the game at Priestfield Stadium when he bundled home after a free-kick by Joe Powell in the 33rd minute as the Brewers ended an eightgame winless run.

John Akinde should have claimed a point for Steve Evans’ men but he missed a glorious chance to equalise from close range in stoppage time.

Burton had conceded 17 goals in their previous four outings and the new manager will have been pleased by a clean sheet.

Hasselbaink was appointed on New Year’s Day, five years after ending his initial reign to take over at QPR.

For Evans, it was Gillingham third straight league defeat.

Jorge Grant missed a second-half penalty as leaders Lincoln were held to a 1-1 draw by promotion rivals Peterborough at Sincil Bank.

Posh grabbed the lead in the 10th minute courtesy of a Timothy Eyoma own goal but were level four minutes after the interval through Anthony Scully.

Grant fired the spot-kick wide in the 66th minute after Posh defender Nathan Thompson was sent off for a second bookable offence after handling in the box.

Rochdale hit back from three goals down to secure a 3-3 draw against Crewe

at Spotland.

Diallang Jaiyesimi netted a goal in either half as Swindon won 3-2 on the road at Ipswich.

The Robins’ other strike came from Scott Twine while James Norwood and Alan Judge were the Tractor Boys’ scorers.

Aiden McGeady levelled for Sunderland after Hull

led through Reece Burke as the sides drew 1-1.
