Virus is found in ice treat
COVID has been found on samples of ice cream in northern China.
Authorities have seized thousands of potentially contaminated products at the Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company and are testing all factory staff.
The cold temperature at which ice cream is stored, plus the fact that it contains fat, could explain why the virus had survived on the samples.
Dr Stephen Griffin, a virologist, said: “We probably don’t need to panic that every bit of ice cream is suddenly going to be contaminated.”
He said it was probably “down to hygiene at the factory”.
Meanwhile, 10 more mass vaccination centres are due to open in England this week with more than a million over-80s invited for their coronavirus jab.
Blackburn Cathedral, St Helens rugby ground, Norwich Food Court and a park-and-ride outside York are among them.
