GORDON STRACHAN believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has proved he is made of the right stuff to deliver success for Manchester United.

As well as showing the mental strength to overcome the critics during his two-year reign, the former Old Trafford winger believes the United manager is building a side with the perfect blend of strength and talent to rediscover the glory days seen under Sir Alex Ferguson.

And while the table-topping Red Devils crashed out of the Champions League in December, Strachan is adamant Solskjaer’s side have turned a corner.

Ahead of United’s visit to Anfield today, Strachan said: “His mental strength is fantastic.

“He’s faced problems and dealt with them. And because of the results they’ve been getting recently, the players are beginning to believe in themselves more. You can see them thinking, ‘This is it, we’re a group now and can win’.

“That’s down to the manager.”

While the attacking flair of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and now Edinson Cavani (left), has grabbed the headlines, Strachan has praised Solskjaer for building a side with backbone.

“What they have put together is probably the most powerful Man United team that I’ve seen for years.

“That power, added to that to the ability they’ve got – it’s no Barcelona or Man City under Pep Guardiola

– but it’s impressive.”
