Brits going nuts for fancy Japanese loos

- ■ by STIAN ALEXANDER sunday@dailystar.co.uk

JAPANESE loos that glow in the dark, open and close automatically and flush themselves have been a surprise lockdown smash.

Some of the tech toilets will even keep your bum warm.

Chat show host Jonathan Ross, will.i.am and the Kardashians are all said to be fans of the bathroom trend.

Analysis of Google searches revealed thousands of us have been hunting for them online.

The toilets, which have inbuilt control panels, come with an array of features including the toilet “greeting you” by automatically opening the lid as you approach it and closing when you have finished.

They also flush themselves and offer massage options, as well as having heated seats.

Other features loved by their fans including “silent” flushing, music on demand and even a choice of built-in air freshener aromas. Some of the fancy loos, which can cost up to £10,000, glow in the dark.

Others can measure your blood sugar, pulse, blood pressure and body fat content while you spend a penny. A spokesman for interior design experts

Homedit.com, behind the Google research, said the loos made the top three on bathroom wishlists.

He said: “Far outranking other smart bathroom gadgets is an LED mirror, with average monthly searches amounting to 73,400.

“And it seems we can’t escape our love for the big screen, as a bathroom TV ranks in second place with 22,700 searches – with a Japanese toilet not far behind.”

The spokesman added: “Smart home technology has come on leaps and bounds, offering a whole host of smart devices that not only make our lives that little bit easier but also conserve water, electricity and the environment.”
