Becks on to a Shaw thing with ace Ryan

- By JOHN WRAGG

STOKE legend Ryan Shawcross is set to leave and link-up with David Beckham at Inter Miami.

Shawcross was left out of this game and not even named on the bench.

Potters boss Michael O’Neill said: “There is interest in Shawcross from an MLS club at the minute. Discussions are open but nothing is concluded yet.”

Beckham is co-owner of Inter Miami and has appointed former Manchester United team mate Phil Neville as manager.

Shawcross, 33, has been recovering from a broken leg sustained in a pre-season friendly at Leicester 18 months ago and has also had a groin operation and calf problems.

He hasn’t started a league game for Stoke since last June but is revered by Potters fans.

Shawcross had a training session on the pitch yesterday but then only watched as Stoke held promotion chasing Reading to a draw.

“We have to remember the service Shawcross has given to this club,” added O’Neill.

“He’s fit now but he has had bad luck in the last 18 months with injuries.”

The Royals, unbeaten in seven Championship games, have a big promotion battle coming up on Wednesday against second-placed Brentford and will have to do better than this.

“There is a little bit of frustration,” said Reading boss Veljko Paunovic.

“We didn’t play our best. Later in the game we were better but we kept our momentum going.”
