Wonder of two gives Rowett home win
TWO wonder-goals in a minute by Scott Malone and Ben Thompson saw Millwall move up to mid-table at the expense of a poor Owls side.
The Championship’s draw specialists seemed to be heading for another point until Malone and Thompson capped an excellent second-half display to grab their first home win since October.
And boss Gary Rowett said: “Our away form has been top six, our home form has been bottom six. Even though there are no fans there has seemed to be a bit of nervousness around the place.
“We’ve had a lot of drawn games and most of them we should have gone on and won.”
Wednesday were ahead after 10 minutes when Callum Paterson forced it in at the second attempt.
But the home side were level six minutes before the interval after Ryan Leonard was hauled down by Joey Pelupessy and Kenneth Zohore fired in the penalty.
Malone put Millwall ahead in magnificent style in the 68th minute, rounding one defender and chipping a second before blasting a volley inside the near post.
And a minute later, Thompson lashed a fierce shot into the top corner.
In the final minute, Mahlon Romeo’s shot was diverted in by Tom Bradshaw.
Owls caretaker manager Neil Thompson said: “They played to their strengths and we were found wanting in the second half.”
