Doctors ‘not safe’

-

MOST doctors still do not feel fully protected from coronavirus at work – almost a year into the pandemic.

The British Medical Association said its survey of doctors “tells a story of real worry” among them.

Since last April, the organisation has been regularly asking medics across the UK about their experiences and the issues they face in settings including GP practices and hospitals.

Dr Rob Harwood, chairman of the BMA consultants’ committee (pictured above), said: “No one should have to go to work and not feel safe, but these results show our doctors seem to be doing just that – and that’s a terrible indictment.”

621 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for

Covid-19, bringing the UK total to 116,908, latest data shows. There are also

13,308 new cases, bringing the total to

4,027,106.

JOHNNY Vegas has been helping to deliver food parcels.

The comedian, 50, offered to help charity Business for Youth to support vulnerable people in lockdown.

This week he was among those who packed 90 parcels at their site in St Helens, Merseyside.

Johnny loves helping people near where he grew up and said: “Nowhere else could I help out and people say, ‘I remember your mum from bingo’.”

STORM clouds are gathering over plans to site a Met Office weather forecasting supercomputer abroad.

This is a £1.2billion investment which will make the meteorologists’ jobs that much easier.

And it will give us a better chance of getting a proper idea if we should take a brolly out with us – though you’re probably safer taking it anyway!

MPs are dismayed that at least half of the supercomputer that is being built to forecast British weather will not be sited in this country. It means we could miss out on huge investment, especially in the South West where the current Met Office computer is based.

It is as baffling as our fickle weather.

We forecast plenty of squalls ahead if there is not a swift rethink. And there should be a hurricane of protest – with good reason.

We have a better idea.

How about we keep the supercomputer and they send us some of their sunny weather?
