Picks of the day Grace
8pm, ITV
Based on the international best-selling book Dead Simple by Sussex author Peter James, this highly anticipated crime thriller marks the small-screen debut of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace (John Simm).
The story begins with the detective at rock bottom. He’s still haunted by the loss of his beloved wife, Sandy, who disappeared six years ago on his 40th birthday, and so pours all his energy into investigating long-forgotten cold cases with little prospect of success.
When a local property developer – whose company is enjoying a raft of recent successes – goes missing on a stag night, Roy is approached by his old friend and colleague DS Glenn Branson (Richie Campbell). And immediately, something feels off about the whole thing. ★★★★★
Unforgotten 9pm, ITV
Last week, it was moved to Tuesday to make way for Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Meghan and Harry, but now the drama is back on Mondays where it belongs. That’s good news for anyone who didn’t want to wait an extra day for the next twists.
In this episode, Boulting uncovers an incident at the pub where the police probationers used to drink, which could be linked to Walsh’s disappearance. Meanwhile, Cassie and Sunny speak to the suspects’ former training officer, who suggests that Ram was the group’s most likely criminal.
There’s another potential breakthrough in the form of Walsh’s brother Clive, who reveals he saw his brother being chased by a car on the night he died – and it contained three men and two women.
Bear & Jonny Wilkinson’s Wild Adventure 8pm, ITV
Jonny Wilkinson began playing rugby when he was just five and went on to win 91 caps for England, scoring the famous drop goal that won his country the World Cup in 2003.
So, he’s firmly in his comfort zone when he first meets Bear Grylls on a rugby ground in Devon, but that’s about to change. Jonny admits he doesn’t have much of a head for heights and has a fear of confined spaces.
Of course, he’ll be confronting both of them in this two-part special, which sees him and Bear exploring Dartmoor’s harsh terrain.
Before they can embark on their adventure, they’ll need a 50m rope – and it’s been stashed in a slimy cave. If Jonny can conquer that, the next challenge involves a “chimney climb” up a 40m sheer cliff, followed by a 50m abseil.
