NETFLIX EXIT FOR REGE-JEAN

- By FELICITY CROSS

BRIDGERTON hunk Rege-Jean Page is tipped to be the next James Bond after Netflix confirmed he will not appear in series two.

Odds on the actor replacing Daniel Craig have tumbled from 5/1 to just 7/2.

Rege-Jean, who shot to fame as the Duke of Hastings in the raunchy historical drama, is now second favourite to bag the role of 007 behind Tom Hardy.

The actor wrote of his exit from the show: “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke.

“Joining this family – not just on screen, but off screen too.”

Jessica of Ladbrokes said: “Bridgerton and Bond fans have quickly put two and two together and the odds suggest Rege-Jean Page is a serious contender to soon don the famous 007 tuxedo.”

Rege-Jean, 31, has been linked to the role alongside Hardy, Henry Cavill, James Marsden and Sam Heughan.

Appearing on Graham Norton in February, the London-born actor refused to deny he was involved. He said: “Bridgerton is the only ‘B” word I am

O’Reilly allowed to say – I am not going to talk about the other ‘B’ words.”

Fans of Bridgerton were quick to share their backing after Netflix broke the news. One tweeted: “OK so do we think Rege is leaving #bridgerton bc he got offered the role of the next James Bond.” Now Hollywood agents have tipped him for the top. US marketing expert Brodie Cooper said: “RegeJean has made an incredible splash in Hollywood in a very, very short time.

“So getting out early with his star appeal being huge is smart, because he can use that monster success and appeal as a key calling card for any potential role.”

It is believed filming on series two will begin this month and the story will focus on Andrew Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey). His sister Daphne, played by Phoebe Dynevor, is also expected to return.
