PUNTER WHO SLEPT IN HIS CAR IS NOW A RACING LEGEND

- By CHARLIE YATES

A HOMELESS man went from sleeping in his car to winning over

£5million and owning racehorses after an amazing winning streak.

Mark Dunphy, 56, lost his job and home after he was hit by a truck at work.

But a football accumulator bet win of

£15,000 kickstarted a gambling career that has netted him £5m in just two years.

Mark had been working on a toll bridge when the accident forced him to quit. He ended up sleeping rough in his

10-year-old Mazda and used his last £200 wage slip to place the wager.

His pick won – and Mark continued to bet and win big. He made so much money he was able to buy his first racehorse, and he is now a successful owner.

Mark said: “I was on that toll bridge for 25 years. It paid my bills. But if I had not been knocked down I’d still be there. I suffered internal bleeding and leg injuries, so I was off work for nearly a year. I went back but wasn’t up to it. “After about three months sleeping in my car, a friend put me up on his sofa. “But the injuries made me focus and reset my life. I started to place bigger and bigger bets at the bookies.”

His run was so profitable he’d pick up

£1m winnings in cash. Mark, of Evesham, Worcs, said: “My biggest bet was

£3.5m on England to win at football. Those massive bets earned me free bets from bookmakers, I even bought my house with a free bet.”

Now he and partner Jo Harris, left, hope one of his horses, Do Your Job, will do them a job at the Aintree Grand National Festival this week.

SCARLETT Moffatt is terrified of monsters under her bed – at the age of 30.

The former Gogglebox star, who won I’m A Celebrity in 2016, said she never let her legs or arms “dangle” out of her bed for fear of being dragged off.

Scarlett revealed on her latest BBC podcast: “We don’t even have a bed with a space underneath.”
