Aguero title winner’s pure gold for Silva

- By TOM HOPKINSON

DAVID SILVA won the

2010 World Cup and the European Championships either side of it with Spain.

But the former Manchester City star still reckons Sergio Aguero’s goal against QPR to clinch the

2011-12 Premier League title gave him his most magical moment in football.

And that’s one of many reasons why he knows his old pal fully merits the statue City plan to erect when the Argentinian leaves the club in the summer.

Silva said: “I have enjoyed many experiences in football with my clubs and Spain but the match against Queens Park Rangers, with the goal in stoppage time, is always there in my memory.

“It was an historic day and Sergio was at the top of that – it was incredible, the madness with the supporters afterwards was sensational.

“He is a big player and totally deserves a statue at the stadium.

“Not only because of the goal which won City their first Premier League title, but also for the enormous work he has done there.

“Kun has always offered the maximum to the club, including in moments when he had physical problems and he was still there to help the team.

“That is the type of player I always want for my club. For any footballer, the sport has a timespan and 10 years at one club is not easy.

“To be the record scorer is sensational.

“The ‘Aguero’ stamp on City will not be easy for them to repeat because of his character, his goals and the titles he won.

“Now he is a part of City’s history.”

Silva, who joined Real Sociedad last year after a decade at The Etihad, expects Aguero, 32, to carry on at a high level.

He added: “Sergio still has the capacity to play at a good level and I am convinced he will next season.”

And he also believes there’s a chance of Aguero completing the job they all set out to achieve — winning the Champions League.

Silva, who won four Premier League titles in Manchester, said: “In the Champions League Borussia Dortmund is a tough rival but City can reach the semi-finals with a lot of hard work.”
